As the Creative Director, you’ll have the opportunity to transform the lives of thousands of children, turning oppression into opportunity and exponential impact, by growing our brand and inspiring our supporters.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you’ll curate an inspiring and impactful brand identity and voice, leading all creative direction for the organization. As Chief Storyteller, you’ll conceive, create and distribute a wide range of stories designed to celebrate and inspire all of our communities and supporters across multiple channels. You’ll partner with the CEO and Marketing Director on all major marketing and campaigns, from conception through design and launch, iterating and innovating as we go. You’ll design creative assets, stories, and videos designed to increase awareness and attract more supporters to join our mission, increasing annual revenue and growing our monthly giving community.

Job Summary
As the Creative Director, you will….

  • Own, iterate and grow the Many Hopes global brand and voice, impacting our three primary growth pillars (digital, experimental, personal)
  • Lead content creation and storytelling for all 6 global sites (Kenya, Bolivia, Ghana, Guatemala, Malawi, Peru)
  • Conceptualize and design all branding tied to Many Hopes campaigns, including idea generation and campaign execution through all channels (web, email, social, etc…)
  • Fully own and manage all email creation and design, evolving our storytelling and increasing engagement of our existing supporters
  • Partner with the Marketing Director to develop and strengthen our website design and presence focused on increasing traffic and conversion through a thoughtful user journey
  • Partner with the Marketing DIrector to develop an annual content calendar based on quantifiable goals
  • Conceive and create all of the visual and content assets to deliver against the content calendarLead video production, and coordinate with a team of storytellers and/or freelance photographers to capture Many Hopes’ stories locally
  • Travel to each Many Hopes site on the ground to capture local, compelling content which will surprise and delight our existing supporters as well as new audiences
  • Proactively contribute to the success of the entire organization and team, serving as an ambassador of our values and our mission internally and externally

Job Requirements
To be effective in this role, you must:

  • Be passionate about Many Hopes, our mission, our team, our beneficiaries, and our supporters.
  • Have 8 years experience working as a creative and at least 5+ years of experience in a leadership role
  • Have an astute understanding and deep desire to learn about our brand and our values so you can communicate through our marketing the importance of our work and why someone should get involved
  • Thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced and ambiguous environment
  • Have a brand vision and be able to articulate it
  • Have experience designing beautiful campaigns from scratch that drive growth and engagement, defining value propositions and key features, and communicating clearly with stakeholders
  • Be comfortable and confident rolling up your sleeves and doing the work yourself. We’re a lean team and we all pitch in to make sure everything we release into the world is excellent and inspiring
  • Be an excellent collaborator and communicator with a desire to work cross-functionally and a willingness to advocate for your ideas while being open and inclusive of different perspectives
  • Act as a results-oriented leader, who outlines clear performance metrics, data, and analytics in order to deliver against KPIs and constantly drive results
  • Use internal and external data to tell a compelling brand story, and able to provide regular quantitative and qualitative results to CEO and Board
  • Act as a self-motivated driver and leader, who can work autonomously

Location
We are a remote-first team, and are willing to work in any US location, although core team working hours are largely in EST. This opportunity is open to any applicant eligible to work in the U.S. or have an existing U.S. work permit.

As the marketing director at many hopes, you’ll have the opportunity to transform the lives of thousands of children, turning oppression into opportunity and exponential impact, by growing our community of passionate supporters.  You’ll own the end-to-end customer journey for our digital audience, focused on iterating our existing monthly giving program and growing the number of engaged subscribers. As a member of the senior leadership team, you’ll lead digital marketing for the organization, specifically focused on growing our monthly giving community through engaging content, a frictionless user-experience, and thoughtful retention touchpoints geared towards showing our donors their impact ..you’ll help to establish ambitious growth goals, and then you’ll develop the product strategy, roadmap and kpis to get us there.  You’ll partner with the CEO and creative director on all major marketing campaigns, from conception to launch, iterating, and innovating as we go. Your primary goal is to grow the annual recurring revenue from our monthly giving program.

Job summary
As the marketing director, you will….

  • Have the opportunity to travel to each of the many hopes sites around the world. You’ll learn about our work on the ground first-hand, meet the children we exist to serve, and bring back the inspiration needed to bring that same experience to our supporters through creative storytelling and empowering experiences.
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative insights in order to develop an agile strategy, roadmap, and team capable of growing arr by 300% within 3 years.
  • In partnership with the CEO and creative director, develop and design the ideal donor journey from acquisition through retention, including the marketing calendar, content creation, digital assets, and event strategy.
  • Conceive and execute marketing campaigns that drive awareness from new audiences while deepening the engagement of our existing supporters
  • develop and resource (with talent and content) a multi-channel acquisition strategy to increase traffic and grow new monthly members.
  • Proactively contribute to the success of the entire organization and team, serving as an ambassador of our values and our mission internally and externally
  • Develop an agile, performance-driven, data-informed culture to ensure we have an astute understanding of our audience and our product performance so that we can accurately measure our success, iterate on our strategy, and hold ourselves accountable to our goals.
 

Job requirements

  • Have launched innovative, content-rich campaigns, across website, social, email and event channels

  • Have proven success using data to identify, map, and thoughtfully engage with various audiences at different stages in the lifecycle, inspiring them to take the next action and deepen their engagement with various audiences

MAXINE FRIEDMAN – BOARD CHAIR

Senior Vice President Growth, Bionic Solution

A Silicon Valley native, Maxine Gisinger Friedman has over 20 years of leadership experience in strategic consulting, executive coaching, business development, and marketing at consulting, agency, startup, and Fortune 500 companies. Maxine is Principal and Founder of Maxine Ventures and plays an independent C-level growth and transformation partner role working with Chief Innovation, Strategy and R&D Officers of some of the world’s leading brands.

A sought-after thought leader on building growth capability strategies and systems at the enterprise level, Maxine also advises multiple startups and is an active angel investor. Prior, Maxine was on the co-founding leadership team of Bionic, an army of entrepreneurs that installs a Growth Operating System that creates a permanent, always-on capability for organic and inorganic growth. As SVP at Bionic, she built and led the Partner and Services team as well as led enterprise partnerships for brands including P&G, Nike, Anheuser-Busch and TD Ameritrade.

A seasoned entrepreneur, Maxine helped build multiple startups (Contently, Syncapse, Clickable, Brandimensions) and always played an early cofounding leadership team role. Maxine earned dual MBAs from Columbia University and London Business School and B.S. in Journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Maxine and her family are currently based in the Hamptons after 20 years in NYC.

BECKY WELDAY – BOARD TREASURER

Becky grew up in Texas and graduated from Baylor University with degrees in Economics and Finance in 1990. A former credit analyst and commercial lender at Bank of America, Becky stopped working in order to stay home with children, Richard and Layne. She met her husband, Rick, at Baylor and got married shortly after graduation. The Weldays have lived all over the world including periods in Switzerland, Mexico City, New York, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Saint Louis, and all over Texas.

Her extra time is spent volunteering with churches and other organizations and she enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

SUE VERITY – BOARD CLERK

Liberty Mutual, Director of Financial Analysis

Sue joined the board as clerk after volunteering with the Boston Many Hopes chapter for several years. She studied Business Administration at the University of Vermont and has an MBA from Boston College. She works as a Director of Financial Analysis at Liberty Mutual in Boston. Sue visited Many Hopes in Kenya and was thrilled to meet the girls and see the impact in person.

PATRICK MURPHY

President, John Hancock Financial Services

CEO, New York Life Retirement Plan Services

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Patrick has spent the past 25 years in the financial services industry helping companies and their employees achieve financial security. He is currently the President of John Hancock Retirement Plan Services. Pat has also spent significant personal time as a coach and mentor, helping young people realize their potential on and off the athletic fields.

He became a believer in the Many Hopes mission after meeting Thomas for lunch in 2012. He was a private donor and helped with fundraising before joining the board.

DANIEL GRANT

Global Staffing Lead, Google Search and Assistant

Daniel joined Google in 2015, after a career in recruiting across the non-profit and education industries. At Google, Daniel initially managed five teams of recruiters, primarily supporting Software Engineering hiring in the Bay Area. Daniel then spent a year leading Google Cloud’s Americas Sales recruiting teams in a hyper growth market. For the past two years, Daniel has been the Global Staffing Lead role for Google Search and Assistant, leading all staffing efforts for all global hiring of these technical businesses.

Before Google, Daniel was the Vice President of National Alliances at Teach For America, based in new York City. With his experience serving under-privileged children in South Africa and Namibia, Daniel launched our Many Hopes New York Chapter and served as Regional Director for our first year in NYC. Daniel first visited Mudzini Kwetu in 2009 and fell in love with our vision for long term, transformative change through the lives of the girls he met there.

NELSON MILLS

Columbia Property Trust, President

Nelson has more than 30 years of experience in the real estate investment and financial services industries. He is responsible for overall strategy, operations, and financial performance of Columbia Property Trust, a $6 billion public real estate owner/operator. He also serves as a director on the Columbia Board. Prior to joining Columbia in 2010, he served for five years as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Williams Realty Advisors, LLC, managing and advising a series of real estate investment funds.

Previous roles included CFO of Lend Lease Real Estate Investments and Partner at KPMG LLP. He received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee and an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia. Nelson and his wife, Judy, live adjacent to Madison Square Park in New York City.

JOSEPH ZITO

(X)form Coaching and Consulting, Founder

Joseph is an Elite-Performance Strategist dedicated to transforming professional lives of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity into realities of clarity, control, calm, and continuous improvement. He previously spent 20 years in the corporate realm, serving as an operating executive in both early-stage startups (including two successful exits) and large global enterprises.

He currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his amazing wife and their two incredible children.

JOSEPH MCKNIGHT

Blackstone Credit, Managing Director

Joseph McKnight focuses on mezzanine lending and private equity investments in the energy and power sectors.

Before joining Blackstone Credit, Mr. McKnight served as a Vice President at Goldman Sachs, where he focused on private equity and proprietary direct investments in power generation and renewable energy within the firm’s J. Aron commodity division. He previously worked as an Associate in the Natural Resources private-equity vertical at Apollo Management.

Mr. McKnight received a BA in History from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with academic honors
